IB DIPLOMA TUTOR MUNICH 1YR+

A full-time tutor is required in Munich to assist a 16-yr old male pupil 4-5hrs per day, 20 hrs per week (approximate- precise hours tbc) for 1 yr +. The pupil will be starting an Online High School Programme for years 11-12 that qualifies for the US schooling system in September 2021. Therefore, the family is looking for a tutor who can provide on-site (in Munich) tutoring to support all relevant US High School subjects for two years before university entry in 2023. The curriculum for the Online High School is IB Diploma Core Modules (2 years prior to university) plus Physics, Maths Economics or CS based electives or AP modules. The modules may be subject to change, but the pupil’s focus is Maths/ Science/ Computer Science.

As the pupil aims to apply to top Ivy League Universities, the tutor will be expected to offer support for SAT preparation and US entry tests until the pupil sits the exams required for 2023 entry. The pupil is very ambitious and is aiming to gain a place at Stanford University, which is a first choice. Further options could be explored with the tutor. The pupil will be enrolled on an official Online SAT tuition programme and will require assistance with homework tasks relating to the one-year SAT test prep course.

Tutor / Applicant Criteria

As the pupil’s goals are very ambitious, the family requires an excellent tutor, who is familiar with the IB Diploma and has experience of tutoring eg. IB Diploma Maths, Physics, Economics as well as experience preparing pupils for the SAT. A degree from an Ivy League/ top UK university is preferred. Any subject is acceptable although tutors with a Maths, Physics, Economics, CS background will be prioritised. Tuition experience is expected- either online, internationally, in school or private household settings.

The tutor must be flexible in terms of travelling with the family to Switzerland and other international destinations throughout the placement, and able to offer flexibility for working times. The tutor would work exclusively for the family.

The Pupil

The pupil grew up in London and started his academic education in the English school system (from 2008- 2013). Back in Germany he attended German schools (2013-2016) and subsequently went to an International school in Munich. From September 2021 he will be enrolled on a US Virtual High School programme for 2 years. He is amazingly talented with computers, codes and can solve the most unusual problems. He is very intelligent and his favourite subjects are Maths, Physics and Economics. He also loves all technology subjects and electronics.

In terms of extra-curricular activities, he is fascinated by US culture and history and loves debating. He is very independent and has already sourced investors for his tech start-up and created an app.

Areas for improvement

It would be preferable if the tutor could encourage the pupil to develop in the field of personal fitness and keeping healthy. The pupil also has specific learning abilities- dyslexia- and so struggles with reading- the tutor should thus be willing to explore different methods of teaching to support the pupil’s specific learning requirements (eg. special resources, user friendly handouts, colour coding etc).
